Jude Bellingham sent off, Real Madrid felt their victory was thwarted by the referee

Real Madrid said their victory against Valencia was thwarted by referee Gil Mazano's decision.

Jude Bellingham was sent off for protesting after the final whistle. He failed to score the winning goal for Real Madrid in a dramatic match in Valencia.

Vinicius Jr scored two goals at Mestalla. Real Madrid came back from 0-2 down to rescue a point.

Bellingham thought he had won the game six minutes into stoppage time when he headed the ball in from close range. However, referee Gil Manzano had blown the whistle to end the match before a cross was sent into the box.

When the goal was ruled out, Real Madrid players and staff surrounded the referee and Bellingham, who returned after three weeks out with injury, was shown a red card for his role in the protest.

Real Madrid statement

"An unprecedented refereeing decision by Gil Manzano prevented Real Madrid from winning against Valencia at the Mestalla," Los Blancos said in a statement.

"With the score at 2-2 and in the final play, Brahim Diaz put a cross into the penalty area and Bellingham finished with a header to make it 2-3."

"But the referee disallowed the goal by signaling the end of the match when the Malaga native's cross went flying in the air. The league leaders deserved three points, but only added one point in a game they lost 2-0."

"Two goals from Vini Jr. were finally settled by Gil Manzano's decision."

Defense for Bellingham

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti defended Bellingham post-match and revealed what the midfielder said before receiving his red card.

“He didn't insult the referee. He is respectful. He spoke in English and said “It was an incredible goal”,' explained the Italian. “This has never happened before.”
