Xabi Alonso should not go to Liverpool to make his biggest dream come true

Xabi Alonso was advised not to move to Liverpool because there are still other clubs that would be a better choice for him.

That is the opinion of the German and Bayern Munich legend, Lothar Matthaeus, regarding the future of the young Bayer Leverkusen coach who is on the rise.

Xabi Alonso is being targeted by top European clubs after leading Leverkusen to extraordinary performances this season.

Die Werkself was built like a war machine without equal.

In 38 matches in all competitions they have participated in so far, Leverkusen have not lost once!

Granit Xhaka et al went through it with 33 wins and 5 draws.

Specifically in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen's record is 22 wins and 4 draws.

As leaders of the standings, achieving 70 points until week 26 makes them 10 points ahead of Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen is in an ideal position to break Die Roten's dominance.

It is natural that Liverpool's name has emerged as one of those interested in the services of the former Spanish national team midfielder, as well as his two other former clubs, Bayern and Real Madrid.

Incidentally, the Reds need a new coach because Juergen Klopp will be leaving at the end of this season.

However, Matthaeus thinks moving to Liverpool is not a good idea for Xabi.

"Liverpool is not the right option for Xabi after this season ends. He has better options," said the 1990 Ballon d'Or winner.

That doesn't mean Matthaeus thinks Xabi doesn't have promising qualities.

But his experience is considered not enough to fill the big hole after Klopp's death.

"Why move to Liverpool?", said Matthaeus in an interview with AFP.

"Why should he leave this beautiful team (Leverkusen) which makes us happy with their beautiful football like Barcelona 12 years ago?".

"To coach Liverpool after Klopp is not easy because Juergen is a hero."

"He's fantastic. What he did at Liverpool was great and what can you do better than that?" he said.

Matthaeus, who is known to be fond of making controversial comments, pointed to Klopp's great achievements while working at Anfield.

Since arriving in 2015, the former Dortmund architect has presented Liverpool with every title possible.

Klopp brought the club to end the Premier League title drought that had lasted two decades, plus the Champions League trophy and a pile of other titles for a total of 9.

Matthaeus hopes Xabi stays at Leverkusen.

However, he is also excited that the 42 year old man will finally accept Bayern Munich's proposal.

Like Liverpool, Bayern is looking for a new coach for next season because they will split with Thomas Tuchel.

Even so, Bayern must be willing to admit that Xabi's heart is not really for them as their first choice.

Matthaeus revealed Xabi's main goal since changing to become a coach.

"I know that Alonso's biggest dream is to become Real Madrid coach one day," said the legend.

If he wants to make his dream come true, Xabi must patiently wait until July 2026.

That's when Carlo Ancelotti's contract at Madrid expired.

Unless there are sudden changes or decisions on the part of Don Carlo or Madrid, Xabi will have to finalize his mix for another two years before moving up to the level with Los Blancos.
